Although there are many fashions of armor with different trade-offs in terms of mobility, comfort, protective qualities and sexiness and you could fill volumes with all that information, they really can all be boiled down to the following the following kinds:
Armor | Enc. | Reduction | Price |
None | 0 | 0 | 0 Coins |
Light | 1 | 1 | 50 Coins |
Medium | 3 | 2 | 70 Coins |
Heavy | 5 | 3 | 90 Coins |
Armor grants Damage Reduction (ref Damage Reduction) which can soften blows of enemy attacks and deflect small bits of shrapnel. This reduction is often called the armor’s Rating. The amount of reduction granted is higher for heavier armor. This reduction is helpful for absorbing damage from many hits spread across time but a single, powerful impact could punch through your protective shell.
This benefit does come at the cost of Encumbrance. The weight and bulk of your armor can restrict your movement or limit your vision, hearing or tactile sense of your surroundings. This cost is represented in the Pay Armor Costs part of Round Prep in the Combat chapter (see Round Prep).
